4/25/12
Today in lab, we were going over our initial design of our transmission. We have made slight modifications in order to achieve highest speed and power. We have decided to have a standard H-setup. This will move the shafts forward and backwards in order to switch gears.
We have learned that we will have to draw gears in Sketch mode in Pro E in order to create the 3D version of the gear. Each gear will have to drawn on this software then it will be assembled. After the assembly, we will be doing stress analysis for next lab.

Week 3 Summary
4/20/12
A basic design of the transmission has been drawn on graph paper. This is the first design so there may be things to change in the future. This design is to have the most torque and most speed. The radii and tooth count has been determined, and all the gears and shafts will be drawn on the computer very soon.
4/18/12
Today in lab, Deepak brought in the housing for the manual transmissions. We used this time to measure the dimensions, holes, and spaces in the housing. We will use these measurements in order to design the most efficient and powerful manual transmission. Deepak has also told us that were is a tutorial to make a gear with teeth. This is crucial to our design so it is important that every member knows how to do this.
In addition, during lab we started to put the Design Proposal together which is due this Friday. We plan on finishing this portion of the module as soon as possible to give us extra time to design.

Week 2 Summary
4/12/2012
Today we met in the Library Learning Terrace, and we started to do more research. We drew sample transmissions that excelled in speed and torque. We are trying to put these two designs together. We came across a myriad of videos and websites that explain what gear ratio is and how to incorporate it in transmissions. With these sketches in mind, we will start drawing on Pro E very soon.
4/11/2012
During lab Deepak officially put us in bbV as Group002-10. He gave us a few resources on the internet to use to give us a general idea as to what to do. He also gave us a rubric about the entire project. The group agreed to set up a meeting time tomorrow to get a head start to do even more research about designing and planning efficient gear ratios.

Week 1 Summary
A group of 2 and a group of 3 came together with the same interest in mechanics. We have decided to challenge ourselves with the manual transmission project.
Once the group (Group-10) has settled to a station, we started to brainstorm ideas for our proposal. Many ideas included transmissions related to cars, RC cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. We are trying to find a way to either improve performance, longevity of the materials, and the cost of the transmission. Google and YouTube were the first sites we visited to get a general understanding on how a transmission works.
Upon leaving lab, we have all decided to arrange a meeting to gather more information. This time will be used to do more research and to continue brainstorming for our design proposal.
On April 9, 2012, our group set up an appointment with our advisor, Deepak Siromani, to talk about the project. We have gathered very useful information pertaining to the project. Our objects are to design a 4-speed transmission that will be used during a competition to see which group can pull the most weight and can spin the fastest. This has gotten rid of all of our concerns earlier because we did not have an advisor. Deepak said he would add our group to bbV.
