A group of 2 and a group of 3 came together with the same interest in mechanics. We have decided to challenge ourselves with the manual transmission project.
Once the group (Group-10) has settled to a station, we started to brainstorm ideas for our proposal. Many ideas included transmissions related to cars, RC cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. We are trying to find a way to either improve performance, longevity of the materials, and the cost of the transmission. Google and YouTube were the first sites we visited to get a general understanding on how a transmission works.
Upon leaving lab, we have all decided to arrange a meeting to gather more information. This time will be used to do more research and to continue brainstorming for our design proposal.
On April 9, 2012, our group set up an appointment with our advisor,
Deepak Siromani, to talk about the project. We have gathered very useful
information pertaining to the project. Our objects are to design a
4-speed transmission that will be used during a competition to see which
group can pull the most weight and can spin the fastest. This has
gotten rid of all of our concerns earlier because we did not have an
advisor. Deepak said he would add our group to bbV.
